All right, I want to come in here and talk to you guys about the power of actually getting in the room. For some of you that know, you know that last week I was in New Orleans, Louisiana. I was speaking at my good friend Shelby Claymont's event. She does a live personal development event every year called Damn Good Marketing Live. And so I spoke last year and I spoke this year and I will say this year was literally insanely amazing.
She filled the room with over 90 female entrepreneurs and I was able to get there on Wednesday early and I spoke to her smaller mastermind group of 25 Wednesday. Trent Shelton came to speak to us that same day and literally he had us all in tears. It was insane in all the best ways. And then on Thursday was the actual live event and she probably had, I don't know, seven to 10 speakers come speak.
And I was one of those and I had the privilege of speaking and pouring into the room and talking about all things, content creation, personal branding, marketing. And I will say, if you're listening to this, get in the rooms and you might be thinking like, okay, what do you mean get in the rooms? So there are events you can go to networking stuff that's free and nothing that's great and everything, but there are also paid rooms that you can be in paid networking rooms. And I will say that the quality of these rooms is literally
So amazing because you're surrounded by other women that are investing in themselves investing their time investing their money in Developing themselves developing themselves personally developing themselves professionally and when Shelby and I talked to the group I DGML I Just talked to them and wanted to encourage them about why It's important to start putting yourself out there. Why content creation is so important
Social media marketing is the long game. Okay. So if you're listening to this podcast now and you're like, I want to start a personal brand. want to grow my business online, but you're not willing to stay in it for long haul. That is the game changer. And that is a hard part of what makes it or breaks it with people. So if you want to start your social media marketing game, you have to be in it for the long haul. I've been in it now two and a half years. I've been at it and it's still not easy for me. I still have bad days. I still have bad days. I'm in a mood.

or don't feel like it or whatever film the blank is happening in my life. But I still show up anyways. And one thing I do if you're listening to this podcast is I batch create content. So what you see is not necessarily me showing up as my live self, it's all scheduled out. So that's been a way that I've been able to maintain consistency and visibility throughout this journey is I schedule my content. And so for those of you listening to, for me, Saturday mornings,
for whatever reason the creative juices are flowing in my brain. So every Saturday morning I create the following weeks worth of content, okay? Saturday morning might not be available for you, maybe you have kids games, you're taking care of a parent, whatever fill in the blank reason is not working for you, but maybe Monday night is a good time for you. Set aside 30 minutes to just create content for the following week and go ahead and just get it scheduled out, take care of it.
And then, but be aware when your content is going live because that's when you want to start engaging with your audience. So if you're just starting your journey and you might be like, okay, well don't have an audience. That's okay. I've been there. I've been you. When I started this journey two and a half years ago, I literally had no followers, no nothing. Like I would put content out there and it would be so cringe and I would get no likes, no engagement, no you name it.
But the only difference in what you see now versus then is I just stayed in it. And once stuff started clicking, I just honed in on exactly what was working and made that better and better each time. So if you're listening to this podcast and you'll start your journey, but you don't want to feel cringe, guess what? Get over yourself. You're going to feel cringe. It's going to be cringe. We've all been there. Anyone who you see out there, Gary V, Tony Robbins, Jen Gottlieb,
Amy Porterfield, Jenna Kutcher, all those big name content creator people, business professionals, they all had to start somewhere too. And so just remember that don't compare your journey now to someone else's journey who's been in this for 10, 15, 20 years. Okay. And I would say too, from words of encouragement. So when we were at DGML last week too, we talked a lot about what type of marketing that actually works.

And I would say if you're listening to this podcast and you're like, you're trying to figure it out. You don't know what to share personal versus professional. My rule of thumb is the 70 30. So 70 % of the content I put out there is professional about what I do. Social media marketing, online, personal branding, you name it, speaking, podcasting. The other 30 % is me personally. Now you don't need to go in there and air dirty laundry or tell everybody and their mama about all your stuff you've got going on in your life.
Guess what? We all have stuff going on in our life and that's okay. But keep it positive. Keep it personal, but as much as you're willing and comfortable to share. So for me, some examples of that is I share that I drink hot tea in the morning over coffee. People literally go nuts about that. I share that I'm married to my husband, Gary, and I am the bonus mom to three of his kids that I have.
two wine writers that I call my podcast managers, Zina and Zara. I share that I like to spend time outdoors. We live in a coastal town in South Carolina, so I love to spend time by the water, on the boat, on the beach, whatever you name it. And people literally love that stuff. They actually wanna get to know you as the human behind the brand. And so don't be afraid to share some of that too in your marketing and personal branding journey. So back to the live event, I literally,
poured into the room, I spent the entire day there. I left literally so on fire, so motivated, so just pumped up about where this journey is going next. And so if you're listening to this podcast, I would highly encourage you to start getting in some of those rooms. I didn't start getting into these rooms until a couple of years ago, but it's literally been the game changer of everything in my business. So if you have questions about getting in the room or don't know where to start,
Send me a message. I'm happy to point you in the right direction, depending on what direction you're going in. So if you like this podcast, don't forget to like it, share it, save it, subscribe. I appreciate you being here until next time.
